CHANDIGARH: With burglary, robberies becoming the order of the day, a city-based BTech student, Nishant Johar, has devised a special GSM security alarm system, linked with a mobile or a landline phone, which can alert the owner, through SMS, if someone tries to unlock, break open locks or tries to barge in through windows into the shop.
The security system has been installed in at least 12 mobile phones and city-based readymade garment stores and is reported to be functioning successfully.
Priced between Rs 25,000"30,000, this security system claims to have an advantage over other conventional security alarms as it gives an instant warning even if the host is far away from the actual spot.
Elaborating on the mechanism, Nishant Johar, a BTech (IT) professional, said, "This alarm system has a power supply, an ON/OFF switch and a motion detector which has an internal battery lasting for 24 hours, in case of a power shortage.
After switching on, the motion detector will become operational after 20 seconds, the time for host to leave the building. After it is switched on, any motion inside the building will be reported and an alarm call will be generated. On picking up the phone call one can hear everything going on inside the building."
Sector-9 based readymade garment shop owner Ginny Chawla said, "We came to know about this GSM security alarm system from a friend who has already installed it in his shop. The system seems to be very effective and we have already seen a demonstration in our shop. It can also be attached to your landline phone." The security system can be installed at windows, shutter, locker and other vulnerable places, Johar said.
